
Journey at Saddlebag Island, San Juan’s
Saddlebag Island is a magical anchorage that provides the perfect stoping-over point before entering the craziness of the San Juan Islands in high summer. Greg and I anchored-over for one night on our two-week sailing trip in Summer 2012. We were joined on this voyage with Kelly and Jim, friends from Bellingham that have a 29′ Cal, and the requisite host of eagles, herons and frolicking sea lion pups. Anchorage can be found on either side of the Island depending upon which way the wind is blowing. An easy row brings you to an relatively easily traversed path to explore this small island.
